American University in Bulgaria

aubg-logoAUBG is a private American-style liberal arts university located in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. The University has assumed a unique and critical educational role in the dynamic region of Southeastern Europe through its emphasis on preparing students for leadership, community involvement, careers, and advanced study. The liberal arts education encourages students to develop critical thinking and creative problem solving. AUBG is accredited both in the US and in Bulgaria, and academic credits are fully transferable in Europe and in the United States.
AUBG awards Bachelor of Arts degrees in nine majors: Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, European Studies, History and Civilizations, Information Systems, Journalism and Mass Communication, Mathematics, and Political Science and International Relations.

How to apply

Application procedure consists of several elements: submission of an application form, proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL) and submission of a high school leaving certificate or diploma and/or college transcripts, as well as letters of recommendation. An SAT reasoning test should also be arranged. For detailed admission details go to the admission section of the official website.

Complete application for Fall Semester should be received at AUBG Admissions Office:
• By April 1 for early admission and more favorable financial aid.
• By June 1 for regular admission and financial aid.

Complete application for Spring Semester should be received at AUBG Admissions Office:
• By October 1 for non-Bulgarian and non-EU students and financial aid.
• By November 1 for Bulgarian and EU students and financial aid.

Exchange students and scholarships

AUBG offers several scholarship opportunities for students.
Entering students who are eligible for a merit or named scholarship will be notified by the Office of Admissions.
Continuing students may apply for “Named Scholarships” funded by private individuals, firms, banks and foundations.
The availability of these scholarships will be announced on the Monday before Fall and Spring breaks.  The AUBG Scholarship Committee processes applications and recommends recipients.


Open Society Institute Scholarships

The OSI Scholarship program is administered upon an agreement between the American University in Bulgaria and the AUBG Program Coordinators in the eligible countries. All OSI Financial Awards from 2010-2011 will be Full and Partial Awards, and will be given preferably to good students who otherwise would not be able to cover the full costs of their education:
Full Awards are called OSI Scholarships and are limited in number. They cover tuition, residence hall and student activity fees at AUBG. All students who receive an OSI Scholarship are expected to cover the cost of food, books, travel, visas and residence permits, and health insurance. These scholarships cover the eight-semester period required to complete an AUBG degree provided that the recipient maintains the required cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Partial awards are need based OSI-funded partial financial aid awards on top of AUBG need and merit based financial aid awards.

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
