The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Mathematics Research Unit of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication
1 Junior Researcher (PhD-student) in Mathematics (M/F)
- 2- year fixed-term contract, renewable for 2 additional years, 40 hours/week, (starting 1st October 2010 or later)
- Employee AND student status
Area: Decision Mathematics (aggregation functions, functional equations…)
The position ONLY concerns candidates who want to prepare a PhD thesis (before a contract can be established it is required that the successful candidate registers as a PhD student at the University of Luxembourg)
Mission:
- Prepare a PhD thesis in Mathematics
- Assist the professors in their teaching activities (1 to 3 hours per week)
Profile:
- Master degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics of high quality, a degree in Applied Mathematics will also be accepted. A master thesis written in Analysis, Algebra, or Discrete Mathematics will be preferable.
- Dedication for doing mathematical research and willingness to integrate the existing team
- Willingness to prepare a PhD thesis
- Good knowledge of mathematical analysis and algebra
- Good written and oral English skills, some basic knowledge of French will be an advantage (readiness to develop some knowledge of French if needed)
