Description

Transitions (TOL) has built up over the past 15 years a reputation as one of Central Europe’s leading journalism educators. To date, more than 5,000 journalists from around the world have passed through TOL’s training programs, which have specialized in journalism and new media instruction.

Transitions is now inviting students to participate in their writing contest by choosing a topic related to the social, political, economic, and cultural transition that has taken place in the last 25 years across the formerly communist countries of Europe and Eurasia. You are free to choose your topic, your angle, your hook, your hypothesis, your research question, your style; as long as your content addresses post-communist transition in Central Europe, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, or Central Asia. A panel of judges, led by Transitions’ editor in chief will choose the top three undergraduate and top three graduate entries. All of the winning entries will be rolled out in our online magazine, which has an international audience of more than 25,000 monthly readers.

Eligibility

The contest is open to students from across the globe.

Award

The first place undergraduate and first place graduate writers will win a free trip to Prague to attend the fall conference “25 Years After: The Challenges of Building the Post-Communist Media and Communication Industries”, from 20-22 November 2014. The winner’s package includes the flight to Prague, accommodation, food and local transportation.
