Description
The IAPSS Executive Committee would like to take this opportunity to warmly invite you to the IAPSS Autumn Convention 2014 on “The Universality of Human Rights in the 21st Century”. The conference will bring together hundreds of students of political science and related studies from across the globe from October 20th – 24th in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The IAPSS Autumn Convention is IAPSS’ second largest conference this year and co-organized by Radboud University Nijmegen’s study association for political science, ismus.
What can you expect?
The conference will consist of four days of academic program – featuring vibrant debates and discussions, high-profile roundtables and student panels, workshops and other academically enriching meetings – focussing on contemporary political science research and developments in the field of human rights. Our confirmed speakers include, among others, Mr. Janneke Gerards (Radboud University Nijmegen), Dries van Agt (former Dutch Prime Minister), Dr. Marie-Bénédicte Dembour (University of Sussex) and Lieutenant General B.D. Ton van Loon (former commander of ISAP South Afghanistan).
In the evenings, a joyful and carefully thought-out social program seeks to give participants a proper feeling of Nijmegen – the oldest city in the Netherlands. Ranging from delights of the Dutch cuisine to parties, there will also be a day-long excursion to The Hague – the capital of international law and human rights – as well as a film night featuring contemporary human rights documentaries from across the globe.
Following the four days of academic program, IAPSS will host its 19th General Assembly – the highest decision-making authority of the Association – on October 24th. The agenda will be packed will crucial topics – from the adoption of the Association’s budget for 2015, to the revision of IAPSS’ legal framework and the presentation of the venue of the IAPSS Autumn Convention 2015. All members of IAPSS are invited to join this day filled with intense debate and planning about the future of the largest representation of political science students worldwide.
How to get to Nijmegen?
There are several airports within the Netherlands that all provide excellent transport options to Nijmegen, incl. Amsterdam-Schipol, Rotterdam-The Hague and Eindhoven, all in convenient proximity to Nijmegen. Right across the border in Germany, Düsseldorf-Weeze or Düsseldorf’s main airport might be a perfect possibility for your travels, too. It is recommended to take the train directly from your airport of arrival to Nijmegen whose Central Station is right in the city center. International train and bus connections from Germany, France and Belgium are available too.
