Description

On behalf of the Council of Europe, all journalists are invited to apply for participating in the World Forum of Democracy to be held in Strasbourg from 27 to 29 November 2013 with the main goal of covering it.

The Strasbourg World Forum for Democracy 2013 will address the challenge of democratic participation through the method of appreciative inquiry. It will showcase initiatives, experiments and ideas that offer a response and a way forward. The Forum will provide an opportunity to review the achievements of existing democratic participation initiatives, the obstacles they face and their mainstreaming potential. The deficit of democratic participation is the symptom of disconnect between citizens and institutions. Social media and social networks make audiences directly accessible to politicians and activists any time, any place but can they be instrumental in enhancing representative democracy and everyday governance? This is the question the Forum will tackle.

A number of journalists will be invited to participate in the Forum and to cover it. In order to support invited journalists’ efforts for joining and covering the Forum, the Council of Europe will provide:

  • a prepaid ticket (train or plane),
  • hotel accommodation from 26 to 30 November

On your side, your commitment will be:

  • to follow the WFD labs and plenary session during the 3 days,
  • to produce at least 2 media reports to be broadcast or published in their own media****
  • to send back after the Forum the media reports that have been produced.

Throughout the Forum, creative labs will enable participants to introduce already tested initiatives as well as new. The Forum is organised by the Council of Europe in partnership with the City of Strasbourg and a range of international organisations, think tanks, foundations, and other partners from the public and private sectors.

More information is available on the Forum’s website HERE.
