The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the leading social science universities not only in UK but also in the whole world. LSE is a specialist university with a global reach. Its research and teaching cover different areas from economics, politics and law to sociology, anthropology, accounting and finance. LSE has 15 Nobel prize winners.
LSE was founded in 1895. The decision to create the School was made by four Fabians at a breakfast party at Borough Farm, near Milford, Surrey, on 4 August 1894. The four were Beatrice and Sidney Webb, Graham Wallas and George Bernard Shaw.
LSE has students from around 140 countries worldwide, and a network of over 92,000 alumni in 196 countries.In 2008/09 the School had 8,700 full-time students and over 800 part-time students. Over half of them were postgraduates. Around two-thirds of students came from outside the UK.LSE also has international staff, with about 45% of employees coming from countries outside the UK.

What can you study?
The School offers courses not only in economics and political science, but also in a wide range of social science subjects, taught within 19 departments and a number of interdisciplinary institutes.
Undergraduate degree programmes:
(BSc/BA/LLB) – three-year first-degree programmes in a broad range of subjects, offering a useful intellectual training in different approaches to social questions.
Graduate degree programmes:
Taught: (Diploma/MSc/MA/MPA/LLM) – one or two-year programmes. Many blend practical experience with rigorous academic analysis so as to broaden the knowledge of practitioners in certain fields.
Research:
(MPhil/MRes/PhD) – programmes producing professional social scientists, well versed in a range of social science techniques and methods, and in-depth knowledge of a particular area.

Financial support
The Financial Support Office, which is situated within LSE’s Student Services Centre, is responsible for administering School funds and a variety of scholarships, studentships, prizes and awards. It administers a variety of scholarships and award schemes (Diploma, LLM, MA, MSc and MSc Research)
