Nine-month Research Scholarships at the University of Oxford
Nine-month Research Scholarships at the University of Oxford (October 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 inclusive) are offered for postgraduate research contributing towards a doctoral degree in the candidate’s home institution. These awards may be held for study in the Humanities, Social Sciences or Environmental Sciences.
Applicants must submit a research proposal (section 17 of the application form). It is important that this is clear and detailed, stating the specific objectives and expected outcomes of the research to be conducted in Oxford and how this links to your post-graduate research. Further information about the University of Oxford can be obtained from the University’s website.
Please note that this scholarship funds research for Visiting Students only and registration on a degree course at Oxford is not permitted. Scholars will have an academic supervisor who is a specialist in their chosen subject and will be given a “Certificate of Studies” at the end of the Scholarship.
Application Procedure
Applicants for all the above-mentioned scholarships should complete the OSI 9 Month Research Scholarship Application Form and return three copies of it to the local Soros foundation/Educational Advising Center.along with the required supporting materials listed below.
Supporting Materials
Three copies of the following documents should be included:
- Official Diploma
- Official academic transcript with grades (original and two copies)
- Certified English translation of academic transcript
- Summary of Diploma dissertation
If your degree course does/did not require a dissertation, please indicate this in section 22 of the application form. Please note that we expect applicants to include a summary even if the dissertation has not yet been submitted. - IELTS/TOEFL certificate (IELTS preferred)
Applicants who already have a valid certificate should send copies with the application. Local OSI/Soros Foundation offices/Educational Advising Centers will arrange tests for short-listed candidates after the interviews in April, if applicants have not already successfully taken a test in the 2 years prior to the interview. - Research Proposal
All applicants must include a statement outlining their proposed research. One page is normally sufficient for this.
Applicants should arrange to have sent:
- Two confidential references
Applicants should ask the referees named on their application form to complete a copy of the confidential reference form and return it to the local OSI/Soros Foundation office or Educational Advising Center before the 12 January deadline.
All application documents must be single-sided. Do not staple or fasten (other than with paper clips).
Deadline
The closing date for OSI Scholarship Application Forms to be submitted to the local Soros Foundation/Educational Advising Center is January 12, 2010.
Interviews of short-listed applicants will be held in April 2010, and final decisions on the award of scholarships will normally be made in June.
Please note that all successful applicants will be invited to attend a 1-month preparatory academic writing summer school in August 2010. The exact date and location of the summer school will be available at a later stage of the selection process.
