Description

A three-year PhD scholarship is available at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering on the topic “Operation analysis of building energy supply systems with various energy sources.”

The PhD project will focus on different combinations of building energy supply systems with various energy sources. An increase in the energy efficiency in buildings and communities could enable an increased use of renewable energy sources. The application of integrated solutions, like solar-assisted heat pumps and boilers together with heat storage, should be investigated.

The objective is to gain more insight into the performance of energy supply systems during the operation phase. This will involve equipment design, control strategy development, and reliability analysis of the energy supply system by using dynamic simulation tools. Analysis of instrumentation and energy metering in such energy supply systems would be beneficial. The candidate will work with NTNU staff but it is also expected to collaborate with external companies.

Eligiblity

The successful applicant is a highly motivated and ambitious student with a Master of Science or equivalent degree within a scientific field relevant to the proposed project. Promising candidates who deliver their Master thesis within 1st of July 2012 are also encouraged to apply.

Scholarship

PhD students follow code 1017, and are normally remunerated at wage level 48, gross NOK 391 100 per year (before tax). There will be a 2 % deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.

Engagement as a PhD candidate is done in accordance with current appointment regulations with supplementary rules in force giving guidelines for scholarship appointments in universities and university colleges. The goal of each of the announced positions is to obtain a PhD degree. Applicants are obliged to engage in an organized PhD training program, and appointment requires approval of the applicants plan for a PhD study within three months from the date of commencement.
