Umeå University

Umeå University is located in Umeå, in the mid-northern region of Sweden. It was founded in 1965 and is Sweden’s fifth oldest university. Today, it has a strong international and multicultural presence with students, teachers and researchers from all over the world. The main campus hosts around 36,700 students.

University Structure

Umeå University has four faculties (Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Social Sciences) and nine campus schools, with additional campuses in the cities of Skellefteå and Örnsköldsvik.

Exchange Students

In order for you to be eligible to apply as an exchange student, your home university has to have a student exchange agreement with Umeå University. To become nominated for an exchange term or a year at Umeå University you will have to apply for the exchange. To find out about how to apply to be nominated, contact the International Office/an international coordinator at your home university. Once you have been nominated you can apply to Umeå University as an exchange student. More about the exchange students here.

Scholarships

Umeå University offers a limited number of scholarships to students from outside the EU/EEA. High performing students applying for a Master’s degree programme at Umeå University as their first choice in the application process will be eligible for this scholarship. The scholarships will include a reduction of 25, 50 or 75 per cent of the tuition fee. No separate scholarship application is needed as each student will be considered for a scholarship during the application evaluation process.

There are scholarships administered by the Swedish Institute, which cover both living costs and tuition fees.
