Description:

The Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for its Postdoctoral Visiting Fellowships. Established in 1983, this prestigious program supports interdisciplinary research on democracy and human development. Designed for postdoctoral scholars, the fellowship offers opportunities to advance research, develop academic portfolios, and engage with a vibrant academic community. Fellows benefit from close interactions with leading scholars, seminars, and conferences, and have opportunities to present their work and publish in the Institute’s Working Paper Series. The Hesburgh Center provides ideal facilities, including offices, IT support, and library access, fostering both personal and professional growth.

Eligibility:

The Kellogg Institute Postdoctoral Visiting Fellowships are open to scholars who meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Background: Scholars from any country who have recently (within the last five years) earned a PhD are eligible to apply. Those from social science disciplines or history are particularly encouraged, although interdisciplinary research related to the themes of democracy and human development is highly valued.
  • Language Proficiency: Non-native English speakers must demonstrate advanced English language proficiency, as active participation in the Institute’s academic life is expected.
  • Visa Requirements for Non-US Citizens/Residents: International applicants must possess a valid passport and be eligible to obtain a J-1 Visa to enter the United States. It is important to note that if you have previously held a J-1 visa, you may be subject to a two-year bar from returning to the US as a J-1 scholar, unless you have resided outside the US for two years following your last J-1 stay.

Benefits:

  • Competitive Stipend: Fellows are provided with a stipend that allows them to focus on their research without financial concerns.
  • Research Funding: Additional funds are available to support the research activities of fellows, enabling them to enhance their projects and contribute meaningfully to their field of study.
  • Medical Insurance: Health insurance coverage is included as part of the fellowship benefits.
  • Housing Subsidy: The fellowship offers a partial subsidy for on-campus housing at the Hesburgh Center Residences or nearby accommodations, ensuring that fellows have convenient and comfortable living arrangements.
