Liu Shiming Artist Grants 2024 for Visual Artists

Open to: Visual artists from any country who have been practicing for at least two years but no more than ten years. Applicants must meet one of the following conditions: have received a BFA or BA in studio arts between 2014 and 2022, have an MFA in visual arts from the same period, or have debuted in a gallery or juried exhibition between 2014 and 2022.

Benefits: Up to five artists will each receive $5,000, disbursed in two payments: $3,000 by January 15, 2025, and the remaining $2,000 upon completion of the proposed project.

Description:

The Liu Shiming Artist Grants aim to support visual artists during the early stages of their careers, helping them to create or complete projects that explore the interplay between traditional cultural or historical influences and contemporary artistic practice. This program emphasizes the importance of cross-cultural artistic dialogue, encouraging artists to infuse their contemporary work with insights drawn from traditional art forms and historical contexts. Grant recipients will work on projects that reflect this blend of influences, allowing them to push their creative boundaries while engaging with cultural heritage.

Eligibility:

The grant is open to visual artists worldwide who have been practicing for 2 to 10 years. Eligible candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Received a BFA or BA in studio arts between 2014 and 2022.
  • Received an MFA in visual arts between 2014 and 2022.
  • Had a debut solo or group show at a gallery or juried exhibition between 2014 and 2022.

Applicants must submit their application and supporting materials in English, and should demonstrate a commitment to cultural and historical elements in their work.

Scholarship/ Awards:

  • Each selected artist will receive a $5,000 grant to support their artistic project.
  • The funds will be disbursed in two installments: $3,000 at the beginning of the project and $2,000 upon completion.
