University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence Alexander von Humboldt Junior and Senior Fellowship Programme 2025

Open to:Researchers from all disciplines who have completed their PhD and reside outside of Germany. Junior Fellowships are for those with up to four years of postdoctoral experience, and Senior Fellowships are for those with a minimum of eight years of postdoctoral experience or a tenured position.

Benefits: Junior Fellows receive €20,000, and Senior Fellows receive €40,000 to cover project costs, travel, accommodation, and additional monthly allowances for families. Hosts receive subsidies for local costs, and the fellowships are fully funded.

Description:

The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” Fellowship Programme is an initiative that promotes research excellence and fosters international collaboration. This program invites accomplished researchers from all over the world to carry out research at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. Fellows work closely with local hosts and are provided with the resources to conduct their projects while contributing to academic exchange across disciplines and countries. The fellowship supports both Junior and Senior researchers, offering substantial financial assistance for the successful completion of their research. Participants also benefit from the vibrant academic environment of the university’s seven faculties, gaining access to office and lab spaces as well as state-of-the-art infrastructure. Fellows are encouraged to use this opportunity to build global networks and enhance the internationalization of research.

Eligibility:

  • Open to researchers from all countries and disciplines, excluding those currently residing in Germany.
  • Applicants for Junior Fellowships must have up to four years of postdoctoral experience. Senior Fellowship applicants must have at least eight years of postdoctoral experience or hold a tenured position.
  • Researchers must submit a project plan and identify a Bayreuth University researcher to act as their local host.
