Description:

The Emerging Voices Journalism Fellowship by Maine Public is a 12-month, full-time paid program aimed at increasing diversity in newsrooms and supporting underrepresented voices in journalism. This initiative offers developing journalists the chance to gain tangible reporting experience and make a meaningful impact by joining the Maine Public news team. Participants will work under the guidance of the Director of News and Public Affairs and other members of the editorial team, adhering to the highest journalistic standards.

Responsibilities include covering local news, pitching story ideas, producing multi-media content for various platforms, and engaging with the public. Fellows will receive mentorship from experienced journalists and training from NPR, PBS, and other industry leaders. The program focuses on developing strong research, writing, and reporting skills.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates from traditionally underrepresented communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrants, and people with disabilities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to commit to a 12-month fellowship in Maine.
  • Demonstrated research, writing, and reporting skills.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with multimedia production, audio editing, and innovative audio storytelling.
