The Commonwealth Secretariat is proud to be supporting youth empowerment through our Young Professionals Programme (YPP). The YPP creates multiple opportunities for talented and qualified young people from across the Commonwealth to contribute to our core work through the transference of technical expertise, innovative ideas, specialist knowledge and fresh perspectives.
The Assistant Programme Officer – Caribbean Region is responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the Youth Programmes Section of the Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate, in particular with knowledge of or reference to the Caribbean region. Responsibilities include: contributing to the development of context-specific research papers, toolkits, resources, guidelines and training programmes, for use by or with member governments, youth leaders and youth professionals; monitoring the outcomes of technical assistance and programme work, and collating learning in alignment with Commonwealth youth development frameworks and guidelines; providing administrative support, including correspondence, procurement payments and arranging logistics related to youth programmes work; and representing the Commonwealth Secretariat in youth networks, forums and meetings as delegated by the Programme Managers.
The Assistant Programme Officer (Caribbean Region) role is for a two-year term. The position may involve some international travel.
Eligibility
To be considered for this role you must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country aged 27 years or younger at the time applications close, and possess a strong bachelor degree or equivalent in youth development or a related degree in social sciences or international development, if combined with relevant experience in youth-led development and democracy initiatives. You will have at least one year’s work experience in the design and delivery of youth development and/or youth-led development or democracy programmes. The work experience may be gained through a combination of paid employment, post graduate research, and placement or internship positions.
