Description

Stellenbosch University (Afrikaans: Universiteit Stellenbosch) is a public research university situated in Stellenbosch, a town in South Africa. Stellenbosch is jointly the oldest university in South Africa and the oldest extant university in Sub-Saharan Africa alongside the University of Cape Town which received full university status on the same day in 1918. Stellenbosch University (abbreviated as SU) designed and manufactured Africa’s first microsatellite, SUNSAT, launched in 1999.

Stellenbosch University is awarding Graduate School Scholarships to pursue doctoral programme.

Eligibility

Candidates must meet the minimum criteria to be considered for a scholarship:

  • A candidate has to meet the minimum criteria for admission to a Ph.D. at Stellenbosch University. This requires a master’s degree in the relevant discipline or, in exceptional circumstances, an equivalent qualification;
  • Candidates must have achieved a grade of 65% in their master’s programs;
  • Candidates must be under 40 years of age when the program commences in January;
  • All students who meet the above criteria will be considered.

Scholarship

  • Prospective students may apply for full scholarships, which amounts to at least R138 000 ( around EUR 9450.77) per year for three years;
  • The Graduate School allocates these scholarships by considering each application on its own merit.
