Description

The group Modelling, Identification and Control Engineering (MICELab), led by Dr. Josep Vehí is a multidisciplinary research group belonging to the Institute of Informatics and Applications of the University of Girona. The MICELab is now seeking 2 PhD students to work on the development of an artificial pancreas for control of type 1 diabetic patients. They will be involved in the project Safe-Ap: New Methods For an Efficient and Safe Domiciliary Artificial Pancreas In Type 1 Diabetes, a high-profile research project funded by the Spanish government and other public and private agencies with the participation of leading research Hospitals and companies. The main objective of this Project is the development of new methods and tools for efficiency and long-term safety of the artificial pancreas at home. This project will focus on development and validation of control algorithms for fault tolerance and robustness to disturbances.

The Ph.D. student will be appointed for a period of one year, extensible up to three years and will start in early 2015. 

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the scholarship you must:

  • Hold a master’s degree in engineering;
  • Have experience in design and simulation of control systems;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in modelling and simulation applications, preferably utilising Matlab/Simulink;
  • Be enthusiast and greatly interested in fundamental research;
  • Have excellent communication skills;
  • Have good command of English.

Scholarship

The Ph.D. student will receive a monthly allowance of 1,000€.
