‘Rethinking Journalism’ Training Session

Description

“Rethinking Journalism” is a seven-day training session on peace journalism and conflict reporting that will bring together 32 young journalists and media makers from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The aim of the training session is for the participants to familiarise themselves with the concepts of conflict-sensitive journalism and peace journalism. These concepts have been developed to facilitate reporting about conflicts and the representation of different interests in societies in a more solution-oriented manner. They further intend to help journalists avoid stereotypes, prejudices, and the escalation of conflicted situations through the use of self-reflection. The project wants to stress the role of a free and independent press as well as balanced, in-depth reporting.

Eligibility

The participants from Germany, Austria, Latvia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tunisia, Egypt and Lebanon and between 18-30 years old can apply. Applicants should have a working proficiency in English and the possibility to prove this with a university/language course certificate or a copy of courses taken on request. The applicants should have a proven interest in the topic of the training session and are either students in journalism and communication studies and/or have worked as journalists. In addition, they should be interested in intercultural exchange with other young people from neighboring regions. Applications by people from within minorities are especially encouraged.

Costs

Accommodation expenses will be reimbursed in full and travels according to a pre-decided sum depending on country of residence 4-6 weeks after the training

In order to apply, send your CV (not longer than one A4 page) as well as a motivation letter in English stating why you are interested in the topic of the training and why you should be selected as a participant. Please include two samples of your journalistic work, such as articles, TV reports or blog posts (as links or in attachment).
