Description
The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a Canadian Crown corporation established in 1970 to help developing countries find solutions to their problems. For 2015, IDRC is awarding researchers to undertake a one-year paid program of research and receive hands-on experience in research management, grant administration, and the creation, dissemination, and use of knowledge from an international perspective.
The duration of the program spans from January to December 2015, with a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months. Based in Ottawa, Canada. Some selected placements can be located in one of IDRC’s Regional Offices.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates must:
- be a citizen of a developing country or a citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
- be currently enrolled at a recognized university at the master’s or doctoral level or have completed a master’s or doctoral degree at a recognized university;
- have a valid work permit before working at IDRC (only for non-Canadians residing in that country);
- not receive any other Canadian government scholarship, bursary, award, subsidy, or honorarium, or hold any federal government contract in support of a research project for the duration of the award, and
- must have a proposed research focus on one or more developing countries, excluding Cuba, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Somalia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
Benefits
CA$39,000-CA$45,000 (salary for one-year). Some travel and research expenses are also supported, up to a maximum of CA$10,000. Benefits include contributions to Employment Insurance, Employer Health Tax, the Canada Pension Plan, and 4% of salary in lieu of vacation leave.
