As a leader in capturing our world through brilliant imagery, National Geographic sets the standard for photographic excellence. Last year, the National Geographic received more than 20,000 entries from over 130 countries, with professional and amateur photographers across the globe participating.
The 26th annual National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest is now accepting submissions. Harness the power of photography and share your stunning travel experiences from around the globe with us. Send National Geographic your best shots in any of categories. Please submit images that accurately reflect the captured moment in time.
The categories for entries are: (1) Travel Portraits, (2) Outdoor Scenes, (3) Sense of Place, and (4) Spontaneous Moments.
Eligibility
Contest is open only to individuals who have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry and who do not reside in Cuba, New Jersey, North Korea, Iran, Sudan or Syria. Employees of National Geographic Society, and its subsidiaries and affiliates, and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such employees, whether or not related are not eligible.
Prizes
1st Prize: National Geographic Expedition to Alaska’s Inside Passage. You will have the opportunity to visit southeastern Alaska on this eight-day voyage for two people with National Geographic Expeditions. Search for orcas and humpback whales, kayak around dramatic icebergs, and explore this remote wilderness with a team of experts. Most amazing award for 1st prize right?
2nd Prize: National Geographic Photo Workshop in Santa Fe. Hone your photography skills with the guidance of a top National Geographic photographer and professional instructor in this five-day National Geographic Photo Workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for one. In this picturesque city, learn how to capture light and frame images that tell a story. Each day’s schedule includes talks, edit-and-critique sessions, and photo assignments in the field.
3rd Prize: Schooners Heritage and American Eagle Cruise. Join Schooners Heritage and American Eagle on a six-day cruise for two along the coast of Maine.
Seven Merit Prizes will be awarded. Each Merit Prize consists of: US$200 gift certificate to B&H Photo; an 11”x14” matted and framed print of the entry; photography course on DVD from; one-year subscription to National Geographic Traveler magazine.
Application
The submission period ends on June 30, 2014, 12:00:00 p.m. US Eastern Daylight Time.
There is a fee of US$15 per entry. There is no limit on the number of entries per person. To enter, you must be registered. Click here to login or to create a new account. After that, you are to complete an entry form with the required information, including your name, address, telephone number, email address, and photo caption; and submit along with your photograph and fee in accordance with the instructions that follow. All digital files must be 20 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide or tall (depending if horizontal or vertical).
