The 58th year of the Wesleyan Writers Conference will take place between 11-15 June 2014. The program includes seminars, workshops, readings, panel discussions, and manuscript consultations, all designed to offer careful attention to your work.  Join the conference and talk with a faculty of nationally known writers, editors, and agents, and meet fellow writers who share your interests.

Seminars and special events include:  The Novel, Short Story, Poetry, Nonfiction, Memoir, Biography, Journalism, Writing for Film and TV,  New Media, Writing about Food and Travel, Writing about Science and Medicine, Preparing Your Work for Publication, and How to Sell Your Book.

Eligibility

The Conference welcomes new writers, established writers, and everyone interested in the writer’s craft.

Costs

Program tuition is $850. The program tuition covers the full program of classes and events as well as a manuscript consultation if you would like one. Optional are meals ($275) and lodging on campus ($170).

Scholarships are awarded competitively, and applicants are judged on the basis of promise shown in their work. Entries should consist of a work in one genre: fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. Several scholarships provide full tuition, room, and board, but most offer smaller awards, covering a part of the Conference tuition.

Several teaching fellowships are available and are awarded to outstanding applicants who have completed book-length manuscripts.

Application

Application deadline for scholarships and fellowships is 20 March 2014. In order to apply please submit:

  • the registration form;
  • a representative sample of your work in one genre;
  • a letter of application explaining your experience and interests;
  • a resume.

Send your application materials as an e-mail attachment (.doc, .docx, .pdf) to agreene@wesleyan.edu. Use the email subject line “Conference manuscript”. In the body of your e-mail, please write:

  • your contact information;
  • genre of your manuscript (short story, novel, poetry, nonfiction).
