‘Vinifera’ Erasmus Mundus MA in Viticulture

Description

The Vine & Wine sector is an exciting and highly competitive area, where sciences, economics and management skills are at a premium. The Vinifera EuroMaster courses are designed to provide graduates the best knowledge to start a successful career in the vine & wine industry, from vineyard management to wine processing or extensive research. The main aims of the course are to develop a broad awareness of international practices and views to be highly-adaptable, open-minded and creative in the approach to viticulture and enology.

Vinifera EuroMaster programme allows you to obtain a joint degree: European Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology, it combines an international blend of university lecturers, expert professors, vine & wine specialists, enologists, viticulturists, researchers, biologists, chemists, economists providing superior quality training.

Vinifera EuroMaster offers a gateway to top level managerial positions such as : Directors/Managers of vine & wine estates & laboratories; cellar Managers; Consultants in enology; Auditors/Advisors in vineyard management; market & trade Consultants; research, teaching & lecturing. This Master course awards a joint degree. The course takes place in two countries (at least a semester in each country).

Vinifera EuroMaster is organized by a consortium of Universities and Graduate Schools named “EMaVE Consortium”. All these institutes are famous for their research activities and their links with the professionals of the vine and wine sector, in the major producing countries of quality wine in Europe: France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain. The 15 Higher Education Institutions which participate to EMaVE Consortium are associated at national level in six groups (EMaVE Partners), each one being represented by a leader institution. Currently, Montpellier SupAgro is the co-ordinating establishment of the EMaVE Consortium.

Eligibility

You must hold at least a Bachelor of Science (180 ECTS) in one of the following fields: Agronomy / Agricultural Sciences; Plant Sciences & technologies; Food Sciences & technologies; or in closely related fields.

Bachelor graduates with other Bachelor degrees can exceptionally be admitted, provided the academic and/or professional background shows potential for a successful completion of the Vinifera EuroMaster programme. In these cases conditional admission can be granted. Candidates are advised to follow an internship or work in a vineyard prior to applying, and to obtain some training in a few of the scientific fields which will be studied. Refer to the Student Handbook for M1.

Applicants expecting their Bachelor Degree can obtain a conditional admission. They must have a stamped and signed Certificate of Completion, delivered by the Registrar of the institution/university, to attach to the application form.

Scholarship

About 10-15 scholarships from Erasmus Mundus programme are granted to Vinifera EuroMaster every year. 

Category A scholarships cover tuition fees & complementary health insurance (8,000€/year); Monthly allowance (for 24 months) of 1,000€ /month; and travel expenses & installation costs ( paid directly to selected applicants ) at 4,000 € / year. 

Category A students are citizens of ‘third-countries’: all countries except for the 27 Member States of the European Union or associated states [Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway]; and citizens of ‘third-countries’ who have not lived or carried out a main activity (studies, work, etc.) in any EU Member State or associated country for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years at the date of application.

Category B scholarships cover tuition fees & complementary health insurance (4,000€/year) and a monthly allowance (for 24 months) of 500€ /month.

Category B students are citizens of European Union Member States, or from Iceland, Norway or Liechtenstein.

Pre-selected applicants will be contacted to organize Skype interviews. Selection of candidates: 5th February 2014 (interviews for pre-selected applicants at the beginning of February). Submission of selected candidates for Erasmus Mundus scholarships to European Agency will be by the end of February 2014. Results of Erasmus Mundus scholarships application : March-April 2014.
