Description

The Right Livelihood Award Foundation is currently looking for a Communications trainee starting in December 2013 or January 2014. The application deadline is 3 November 2013.

The Right Livelihood Award Foundation is a charity registered in Sweden. Its office is located in Stockholm. The Foundation is a politically independent and non-ideological platform for the voices of its Laureates to be heard. It is sustained by individual donations from different countries. The Swedish Foundation has partner organisations in the US, Germany, and Switzerland. Its network of recipients, donors, and other supporters covers five continents.

The Foundation’s principal purpose is to bestow the Right Livelihood Award. Yet, the support it gives means more than just a prize. The Foundation invests a lot in press work and communication on behalf of its recipients – former and current Laureates. It also seeks to help protect those Award Recipients who are at risk: In 2012, for instance, it organised a solidarity visit by Laureates and Foundation representatives to Chad, where Jacqueline Moudeina (RLA 2011) is facing severe threats because of her human rights work. The same year, an observer mission went to Turkey to observe a court trial against Hayrettin Karaca (RLA 2012).

The timeframe for the communications assistant traineeship is December 2013 or January 2014 – June 2014. The exact period can be discussed. It would be beneficial if the trainee could start working before the 2013 Award week at the end of November.

The trainee’s main tasks will involve:

  • website management, content and promotion
  • maintenance, content, promotion and development of social media platforms
  • multi-media management
  • publications, e.g. lay-out of Annual Report
  • press work
  • general office support

Eligibility

  •  university studies (ongoing or finished), or journalism, media and communication management
  •  experience with online journalism and online promotion
  •  multimedia skills such as video editing, Photoshop, InDesign and Typo3. Filemaker is an advantage.

Languages: Candidates should have excellent oral and written English skills. French and Spanish would be an advantage. German and Swedish would also be beneficial.

Remuneration

The trainee will be remunerated with 9.024 SEK (1,032 Euros) per month (before tax).
