Description

The Center for Comparative History and Political Studies has announced the open call for applications for the International Workshop Comparative Methods in History and Social Sciences: Perspectives on Interdisciplinary Approach that will take place in Perm, Russia, from 28 September to 1 October 2013.

This workshop will focus on discussing the perspectives of mutual methodological and conceptual enrichment between historical and social sciences. Are historical narratives merely raw material for the theorizing of social scientists? Or historical methods could alternate the viewpoint of the latter? How legitimate is the use of mainstream quantitative or other inferential techniques from political and social sciences in history?

The aim is to arrive to some fruitful and feasible solutions or at least more informed reflection regarding these trade-offs by uniting experienced scholars from both academic realms, young scholars, and graduate student. The participants will have an opportunity to look at the links between history and social sciences from a new standpoint, to consider new possibilities and challenges that open up in front of them.
