Art Today Association – Center for Contemporary Art Plovdiv (CCA)

The ATA was established in 1997 as a non-governmental organization registered in public favour. The aims of the association are – among others – to present alternative and experimental forms of contemporary art, to work for their study and documentation and to popularize its activities to a wide audience, giving priority to pupils, students and young people.
The association gained the right to situate its Center for Contemporary Art in the Ancient Bath, rebuild in the period of the Turkish Empire. The building belongs to the Municipality and is a unique monument of culture from the 16th century.

This is your opportunity to work for three months in the Center for Contemporary Art Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Plovdiv is a city situated at the river Maritza and on a number of picturesque hills that are part of the town’s charm and beauty. Being the second largest city in the country, it has a population of 350.000. The history of Plovdiv spans 6000 years, with traces of a Neolithic settlement dating to roughly 4000 BC, ranking it among the world’s oldest cities. At the moment, the city is working on its candidature for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2019. The CCA is involved in this creative process and will play an important role fostering cultural urban developement by means of contemporary art.

Eligibility

Candidates need to have:

  • strong interest in and knowledge of contemporary arts and Eastern European culture(s)
  • experience in working in the field of cultural management
  • graduated or at the end of your studies of humanities and/or something related to cultural management or PR
  • very good communication skills in English (written and oral)
  • good computer skills (Mac or Windows)

Ideally you also have:

  • very good communication skills in German and/or Bulgarian (written and oral)
  • experiences in the Eastern European art scene
  • profound knowledge and experiences in cultural management, public relations, fundraising and/or with project management tools

Your possible tasks

  1. optimizing the PR and marketing concept and applying new creative strategies
  2. translations from German to English
  3. fundraising
  4. assistance in the center’s current projects:

• URBAN DREAMS in the framework of the international project HEICO (Heritage, Identity and Communication in European Contemporary Art Practices) – more details HERE;
tasks: e. g. communications design, support of building up an archive about art practices engaging with the city and urban spaces
• Week of Contemporary Art 2012 (еxhibition, opening: 7 September)
Facade Video Festival (12-16 September 2012)
• preperations of and research for an art exhibition and other events in the framework of the Days of Happiness 2013 in Plovdiv in cooperation with the Credo Bonum Foundation, Sofia
