Description
UCL Australia offers a variety of government and industry scholarships to attract highly motivated, talented students to apply to study in our world-leading programmes.
UCL (Australia) will award scholarships to the most outstanding students to study either a Masters or PhD (research) in Energy and Resources. These scholarships are intended to support students pursuing postgraduate studies in energy and resources at either the UCL School of Energy and Resources, Australia, or the UCL International Energy Policy Institute.
Eligibility
UCL goal is to attract students who are committed, in equal measure, to social, commercial and sustainable behaviours and practices. UCL aims to produce graduates whose values include being:

Scholarships will be available for each academic year until 2016.
The scholarship programme is open to students who have accepted an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) to study full or part-time on the Master of Science in Energy and Resources programme or full-time in the PhD programme at UCL (Australia).
Scholarship
The value of each MSc scholarship is the total tuition fees for the two years of the programme (A$64,500) if they are full-time or 50% of the full fee (A$32,250) for part-time study, paid directly to UCL (Australia). The scholarship is tenable for two years (full time) or three years (part-time), subject to continued satisfactory academic progress . Students on the MSc must achieve a minimum grade of 60% overall across year 1 to remain on scholarship.
The value of each PhD scholarship is the total tuition fee for the three years of the programme ($96,750) paid directly to UCL (Australia). In addition a stipend for living expenses of up to A$25,000 payable in each year of the programme for the period of enrolment. The scholarship is tenable for three years (full time) subject to continued satisfactory academic progress.
The scholarship may be held alongside other scholarships, studentships, awards or bursaries however recipients of the scholarship may not undertake additional full-time university studies alongside the programme at UCL (Australia).
Application
Applicants who wish to be considered for one of the BHP Billiton Scholarships must apply online.
Applicants for the MSc who meet the academic requirements for admission will also be ranked on other criteria including the submission of an essay. Every intake the essay topic will vary. For the February 2013 intake, the essay requires students to critically analyse the statement: “The concept of ‘peak oil’ has been devised to reflect scarcity associated with oil supplies. But surely the price of oil would be a more efficient indication of its scarcity.”
This essay should be no more than 500 words (including footnotes, but excluding references) and will be checked for plagiarism using Turnitin®
Applicants who are shortlisted for the BHP Billiton MSc Scholarships on the basis of their academic qualifications will be ranked according to the quality and originality of their essay.

In all cases an interview with the shortlisted candidate(s) will take place.
