Scholarship: 10 full covered stipends + additional stipends for self-supporting students.
This special program offers non-Japanese students an opportunity to work toward Doctor of Engineering (3 years) or Master of Engineering (2 years) degrees.
Ten of the top qualified students will be awarded scholarships from the Japanese Government’s Monbu-kagakusho (MEXT: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). We also seek several more highly qualified students to enroll as self-supporting students.

The Application as a self-supporting student can be accepted until April 20, 2013

Lectures and research guidance in English

Admission based on the evaluation of the documents submitted by the applicants and e-mail interviews between the faculty and the applicant
(You don’t have to take Regular Entrance Examination)
Free basic Japanese language classes for the students and their spouses

520,800 yen (Doctor) (as of 2012)
Students awarded the MEXT scholarships are exempt from the above fees.
The MEXT Scholarship will not be offered to students who are already receiving grants from other sources.If you apply for the Japanese Government’s MEXT Scholarship by obtaining the recommendation of the Japanese Embassy in your country, you will not be eligible to enroll in this program. Instead, you will have to initially enroll as a research student and then later take an entrance examination to be admitted to the graduate courses. MEM Students who are not awarded MEXT Scholarships are called self-supporting students: they are responsible for their own fees and living expenses.
Financial Supports for Self-Supporting Students Admission
The Graduate Council of The University of Tokyo grants admission to this program based upon the recommendation of theSchoolofEngineering. Screening for admission is based both on the evaluation of documents submitted by the international students and, if necessary, on Internet interviews and examinations conducted by the faculty. Once the evaluation process is complete, ten top qualified applicants will be nominated as candidates for the MEXT Scholarship and several more applicants will be granted admission to this program on a non-scholarship basis.
Application
To apply for 2013 academic year, a completed Application Form together with other necessary application materials must be submitted to the MEM International Graduate Program Admissions Office at the address below no later than 5:00 PM November 30th, 2012 (Japan time). Please submit the materials by registered mail or use an international delivery service such as UPS and FEDEX.
