The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships target highly-qualified students from the countries listed below. About 120 scholarships will be awarded for studies in Sweden, starting in August 2012. Please note that in order to apply for a Swedish Institute Study scholarship the student must first be admitted to a Swedish university/university college. The application period for study programs opens 1 December, 2011. About 600 different study programs at Swedish universities are eligible for a scholarship. The programs have been selected by the Swedish universities and cover a wide variety of study areas. The list of eligible study programs can be found here.

Scholarship

Scholarships are intended for studies in Sweden starting in the fall semester 2012 (August) and focus mainly on master’s level. A few scholarships will be awarded for studies at bachelor’s level. The scholarship covers both the tuition fee (which is paid directly to the Swedish university/university college by the Swedish Institute) and living expenses to the amount of SEK 8,000 per month.

The scholarship is only awarded for programs starting in the fall semester 2012 (August) and is granted for of one academic year, i.e. for two semesters at a time. It will be extended for programs longer than two semesters provided that the study results are satisfactory. The scholarship is designed to cover living costs and study expenses for the scholarship holder. There are no grants for family members. The granted scholarship period cannot be altered or extended beyond the study program period nor can the scholarship be transferred to another study program at a Swedish university.

Travel grants

Scholarship holders will receive a travel grant in connection with the scholarship. The travel grant is a one-time payment of SEK 10.000.

Insurance

Scholarship holders are insured by the Swedish State Group Insurance against illness and accident during the scholarship period.

Eligibility

The program is open to candidates from two different categories of countries.

Category 1:
Candidates with citizenship from the following countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Within this category around 60 scholarships will be awarded.

    1. Dear Ishmael,

You can find Sierra Leone on the DAC list of ODA recipients, and it is not mentioned in the exceptions. So that means that you are eligible to apply, if you fulfill the other criteria as well.

      Kind regards

  1. Hey, i'm from Macedonia and i am eligible to apply.
However do i need to pay an application fee after i submit the application? Because there is a checkbox to tick if you think you need to pay.

And also after the application, when do you need to send the documentation? After your application gets accepted?

    Regards 🙂
    F

    1. Dear Filip,

I am not really acquainted with the application procedure, but from what I've read, first you need to apply for a study programme at one of the Universities, that is eligible for the scholarsip. Here is the list of programmes http://www.studyinsweden.se/upload/studyinsweden_
You need to do that because there is a personal application number retrieved in the confirmation from your study program registration, that has to be used when applying for a scholarship. Then you can apply for a scholarship. The Swedish Institute will evaluate your application between March 26 and April 15, 2012. Each successful candidate will receive an official scholarship offer by e-mail and is requested to accept or reject this offer.
I am guessing that if you get accepted and receive ascholarship, they will inform you on the further steps that you would need to take (for example: mailing the documentation… )
As for the payment of a fee, in the Fees and costs section of the official website (http://www.studyinsweden.se/How-To-Apply/Fees-and-costs/) it is stated that "Tuition fees apply to students who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland. The fees apply only to bachelor’s and master’s programs and courses, while PhD programs are tuition-free." Seeing as Macedonia is not an EEA country, I would imagine you would need to pay a fee.

      Kind regards

    1. Dear Javlon,

Mladiinfo does not offer any scholarships, grants, or any kind of financial aid. We just find information about different opportunities and we post them on our website, always telling the people that are interested in a particular opportunity to visit the Official Website, or contact the University or organizer that is providing it.
So in this case I would have to refer you to the Swedish Institute.
Anyway, if you read the post carefully you will see that you can find Uzbekistan on the DAC list of ODA recipients, so that means you are eligible to apply for a scholarship, if you get accepted on one of the eligible study programs.

      Kind regards

  2. Hey, i applied for a scholarship for the University Of Gothenburg, and for the application to arrive i need to pay 900 SEK. Why is that, and how can i skip that by not paying?

    1. Dear Mario,

We have no insight in the Universality's policy for the application process for scholarships, so I could only speculate why they would ask 900 SEK for the application form. Maybe it's some administrative cost, like a tax that every student enrolled at the University has to pay. Keep in mind that first you need to apply for a study programme at one of the Universities and then you can apply for a scholarship.

      Kind regards
      Elena

      1. I applied for Software engineering and management, but I checked a box that said: I have read the information on this website and believe that I am not required to pay an application fee. I checked that and the application can't arrive because i haven't payed the app fee. I think it's because Macedonia is outside of the European Union, and that's why I'm obligated to pay the fee.
        Thanks, Mario

  3. I want to know that do you offer any scholarships or grants for somalia students? i also have bachelor’s for history and civilazation so i need scholarship for master degree plz i need some information i peasure for that

    1. Dear mohamed,

Please keep in mind that Mladiinfo does not offer scholarships, or any kind of financial aid. We only post information about different opportunities.
If you are interested in the The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships I can tell you that Somalia is one of the eligible countries, which you can read for yourself in the post. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact the The Swedish Institute.

  4. Hi
I'm from Macedonia and I'd like to know if the last date to apply is 16th of January or it is open till March 14th?
Also what kind of certificate for Language skills it's needed?

    1. Dear Margarita,

The 16th January deadline is for the application process for a study program at Master’s or Bachelor’s level, and the application period for the scholarships is March 14-25, 2012. That means that prior to applying for a scholarship, the student must first apply for a study program at Master’s or Bachelor’s level.

      Kind regards
      Elena

  5. Dear Elena,

The deadline for application was 16th of January 2012. Is there any chance to apply after deadline as late submitter ? I want to apply for scholarship but I did not submit my application yet and application deadline has been crossed. Your immediate response is eagerly awaited.

    1. Dear Temoor,

If you read the disclaimer, that is located just below every post on our website, you will see that "Mladiinfo does not give scholarships or any financial support, but only informs about different opportunities". Seeing as I work for Mladiinfo, and not the The Swedish Institute, that would mean that I am not authorized to give extensions on deadlines. I would suggest you contact the Swedish Institute, if you want an information about a possible extension of the deadline.

      Kind regards
      Elena

    1. Dear Mario,

Seeing as it is not mentioned anywhere in the requirements above that only excellent students can apply, so I don't think that you need to worry about it. But to make sure please contact the Swedish Institute and ask them your questions.

      Kind regards

    1. Dear dragana,

In the post it is written that the scholarships focus mainly on master’s level and a few scholarships will be awarded for studies at bachelor’s level. So PhD studies are not mentioned.

  6. Hallo,

I would like to inform, if this opportunity is only for students or it is possible to apply if I have already graduated. Is it possible to apply for scholarship while I finished University 3 years ago?
If no, is there any possiblity to receive some kind of support even Iam not a student anymore?
    Thank you for your answer.

    1. Dear Zuzana,

There are a few scholarships for bachelor studies, which you are not interested in, but most of the scholarships are aimed at master studies. So first of all you have to be accepted at a study programme in Sweden, from the ones listed in the link in the post, and if you get accepted, then you can apply for a scholarship.
For more information please contact the Swedish Institute.

      Kind regards
      Elena

    1. Dear Vladan,

Well, the deadline for applying for the scholarship has not yet passed, to be fair the application period for the scholarship has not even started yet (14-25 March 2012), but unfortunately the period for applying to the Universities has passed (it was lasted between 1 December 2011 and 16 January 2012). So if you haven't applied for a study programme, then you have no right to apply for a scholarship.

      Better luck next year
      Elena

  7. Based on the 2011 scholarship results, I saw 105 scholarships only given to the students from category 1 countries. Was the scholarship policy different then and only the students from category 1 have high probability to get the scholarship this time too???

    1. Dear shrestha,

We have no insight on the The Swedish Institute's scholarship policy. We only post the information that we find or is given to us, so my best advice would be for you to contact them directly with your inquiry.

      Kind regards

  8. Hello,
I have Friedreich's ataxia disease, I'm 29 years old, I'm doing a master in chemistry in Sweden but am from Egypt, I use wheelchair and live alone, because of that I spend the time of my scholarship fixing my life here and couldn't focus in my study, so I should stay in Sweden one more year to finish my master. Now after fixing my life essentials here I can put my study in first priority if I have a stable financial situation. So I'm looking for any financial support in the coming two semesters. I'm sending this Email to you to tell me where I can looking for this.
    Kind Regards,
    Elsaid

    1. Dear Elsaid,

Please note that Mladiinfo does not give scholarships or any financial support, but only informs about different opportunities.
