Description
To celebrate the talent in the UK’s photographic community, they are officially launching our Professional Photographer of the Year awards for 2011.This year’s Professional Photographer of the Year awards are only open to digital submissions but to all photographers, worldwide.You can enter as many categories as you wish, but only one image per category apart from the Portfolio category. Each category will be judged and a winner will be chosen from each and put forward to a final judging from which the overall winner will be chosen.
The PPOTY 2011 Awards will be hosted by theprintspace.Theprintspace offers professional photo & fine art printing, mounting & framing to customers via the web and at our central London print studio.
They have 13 categories for photographers to enter and the titles are generic to encourage as many as possible to take part. There will be a winner and runner-up in each category, plus Best Portfolio winner and the Professional Photographer of the Year title.
Category 1: The wild world: Show Mother Nature’s true character.
Category 2: Sporting action: Show us your perfect timing, amazing lens control and how you capture the passion.
Category 3: High fashion:From a head shot to a full length, we want to see images oozing style.Sponsored by Sigma.
Category 4: Street photography: Raw, candid, colour or mono, a visual comment.Sponsored by Chau Digital.
Category 5: Commercial clients:From abstract, architecture to industrial Britain. Sponsored by Amazing Internet.
Category 6: In the studio: Show us your mastery of light. Sponsored by Morgan Richardson
Category 7: On location: From gritty urban scenes to polished city portraits, we want to see you show skill at using the surroundings to enhance your image. Sponsored by Olympus
Category 8: Reportage weddings: Are you the next Jeff Ascough.?Sponsored by One Vision
Category 9: Still life: Let the judges see your control of lens choice, depth of field and composition. Sponsored by Hasselblad

Category 13: The Portfolio Award: This goes to the photographer with what the judges consider the strongest overall portfolio of three images. The category and subject matter are open, and they encourage you to submit new images from one or more shoots.Sponsored by Focal Press.
Eligibility
- All photographers over the age of 18, except (i) employees and principals of Professional Photographer, its affiliates, and participating sponsors (collectively, the “Competition Partners”).
- Eligible participants must be natural persons and not corporate entities.
Prize
They would like to think that becoming Professional Photographer of the Year 2011, or a category or Portfolio winner, are strong enough reasons for entering. Yes, there will be an exclusive winners’ party with sponsors and judges, plus magazine staff, but we also feel that you need to get something a bit extra. So, each winner will receive an exclusive logo to promote themselves to the industry and to their clients, which can then be used to help market themselves through websites, stationery and business cards, as a mark of distinction and a sign of quality. In addition, there will be a section created on the PP website profiling the PPOTY winners, using this logo as a reference point, so potential clients can visit and discover their award winning photographer.
How to apply?
- Entries must be made online using the instructions provided on the official website.Only electronic entries will be accepted.
- Each entrant may submit no more than one image per category excluding the Portfolio category. However, they may enter as many categories as they wish.
- Entry images must be electronic and must be uploaded to the site, which will require creation of a Professional Photographer website account.
- Entry images must be submitted at, or be available at, sufficiently high resolution so that they can be printed at a standard acceptable for display in printed media.
- Entry images must be clearly titled with the category the photographer wishes to enter. Please do not use any spacing in the file names.
