Description

The International Master in Quaternary and Prehistory (IMQP) lasts two years. It is formed of a partnership of six HEIs with multi-annual experience in prehistoric research and formation: Università degli Studi di Ferrara (Italy, coordinator), Muséum National d`Histoire naturelle (France, partner), Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain, partner), Instituto Politecnico of Tomar (Portugal, partner), Universidade de Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (Portugal, partner) and University of the Philippines Diliman (Philippines, partner).

The main subjects of the IMQP educational program are prehistory, anthropology, human palaeontology, chronology, evolution of fauna and flora, archaeometry and Quaternary geology. The main objective of the Master is to provide an essential knowledge on Prehistory and Quaternary geology by adopting an interdisciplinary approach and exploiting the scientific specialities of each partner Institution.

The IMQP master award a JOINT DEGREE signed by all Partners Institutions (UNIFE, URV, MNHN, IPT & UTAD). The students can also ask for a national degree awarded by the first hosting institution. The officials languages of the joint degree are English and French.

Scholarship

The amount of the Erasmus Mundus grant awarded by the European Commission is € 34.000 for two years for the category A (8.000 € of contribution to mobility + 2000 € for the inscription + 24.000 € of scholarship) and € 17.000 for two years for the category B (3.000 € for the mobility in the Philippines + 2.000 € for the inscription + 12.000 € of scholarship). There are 7 category A scholarships and 4 category B scholarships.
The above mentioned amounts are taxable according to the law of the country of the University where the student is enrolled. Category A scholarship is available to students who come from a country other than a European Union Country (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom) or from Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein and who is not a permanent resident nor has carried out his/her main activity (studies, training and work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in at least one of the mentioned countries in this paragraph.

Category B scholarship is available to students who come from a European Union Country (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom) or from Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein or who, not coming from the mentioned countries, is a permanent resident or has carried out his/her main activity (studies, training and work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in at least one of the mentioned countries in this paragraph.

Mobility will be encouraged by the availability of free or low cost apartments at each partner institutions’. This mobility will be available for the entire year, and also at summer time when full immersion study activities will be included in the program in summer schools (15 days minimum duration) together with participations in explorations in the country side (excavations, etc.). These initiatives  will be particularly favorable for expected stage activities and for those activities concerning a final report compilation (final exam).

Eligibility

Students from at least 3 year university courses can be admitted. These courses have to be legally acknowledged with university degree or similar qualifications within archeology, literature, prehistory, paleontology, Quaternary’s geology, natural and environmental science, biology and geology, technology and cultural heritage preservation, education and tourism science. Because the Master course is taught in English or French, proficiency in one of these languages is compulsory.

– identity document certifying my citizenship (passport or ID);
– document certifying my residence (passport or ID);
– educational qualification requested by the call;
– copy of the first page of final thesis or of the summary, if possible;
– document certifying level of knowledge of English or French;
– letter explaining the reasons for participation in the Erasmus Mundus Master;
– recommendation letters;
– CV
– documents certifying previous experience in the field (excavations, seminars, intensive courses, etc.):

The attached documentation must be presented in English, French or Italian, or must be translated into one of these languages by a sworn translator or by a Diplomatic representative.
