The NATO Defense College (NDC) is offering a limited number of Research Fellowships in the field of social and political sciences. This offer is open to all Partnership for Peace (PfP), NATO Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) countries.

Description

The NATO Defense College currently offers five fellowships each year in the field of security policy research.This offer is open to all Partnership for Peace (PfP), NATO Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) countries. The objective is to promote scholarly research in areas of particular interest to the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC), PfP, MD and ICI Partners.Two Fellowships are available for candidates from PfP countries, two Fellowships are available for candidates from MD countries and one Fellowship to ICI Countries.
Partnership for Peace (PfP) Fellowships:
Two fellowships are made available each year for applicants from PfP countries. Each fellowship lasts four months and each fellow receives a stipend to cover his or her travel expenses and the costs of his or her stay in Rome while conducting research at the NDC. Applicants should be citizens of PfP countries.They are invited to submit proposals in the area of Euro-Atlantic security, by completing and forwarding their Application Form to NDC Research Division.
Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) Fellowships:
Two fellowships are also made available each year for applicants from MD countries. Each fellowship lasts four months and each fellow receives a stipend to cover his or her travel expenses and the costs of his or her stay in Rome while conducting research at the NDC. Applicants should be citizens of partner countries in the Mediterranean Dialogue.They are invited to submit proposals relating to Mediterranean security.
Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) Fellowships:
One fellowship is made available each year for applicants from ICI countries. Also in this case, the fellowship lasts four months and each fellow receives a stipend to cover travel expenses and the cost of his / her stay in Rome. Applicants should be citizens of partner countries in the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative. They are invited to submit proposals relating to the Gulf Security.

Eligibility

  • Candidates for the NDC/PfP Fellowships must be citizens of one of the following countries: Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine or Uzbekistan
  • Candidates for the NDC/MD Fellowships must be citizens of one of the following countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Mauritania or Tunisia.
  • Candidates for the NDC/ICI Fellowship must be citizens of one of the following countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
  • Candidates will be selected on the basis of their specific aptitude and experience for carrying through a major NATO-related research project. Criteria for selection include academic qualifications, quality of research proposal, professional experience and publication record.
  • Candidates must have a good working knowledge of the English or French language and be computer literate.
  • Candidates for PfP Fellowships are invited to submit proposals in the area of Euro-Atlantic security.
  • Candidates for MD Fellowships are invited to submit proposals in the area of Mediterranean security.
  • Candidates for the ICI Fellowship are invited to submit proposals in the area of the broader Middle East security.

Fellowship

The fellowship lasts four months and each fellow receives a stipend to cover travel expenses and the cost of his / her stay in Rome.  Payment will be made in three instalments: a first one of Eight thousand Euros the week following  the
Fellow’s arrival at the College; a second one of Four thousand five nhundred Euros will be made after 90 days; a third one of Three thousand Euros will be      granted upon submission of the academic report, and the delivery of a presentation. Two Fellowships are available for candidates from PfP countries, two Fellowships are available for candidates from MD countries and one Fellowship to ICI Countries.
