Hands Off My Design Competition

The Hands off my Design competition invites submissions of posters and videos (that can be used as guerrilla/viral marketing tools) aimed at illustrating the dangers and negative effects of counterfeits and illegal copies.

The entries should consist of two items: one video and one poster. The poster should relate to the key message of the video submitted and should also include a clear link to www.handsoffmydesign.com.  Any text or audio in the video and the poster should be in English.

The works will be evaluated on how well they fit the purpose of being used as a guerrilla/viral marketing tool and their effectiveness in showing the dangers and negative effects of counterfeits and illegal copies.

The Hands off my Design competition is organised by the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) and the European Observatory on Counterfeiting and Piracy and is endorsed by the Cumulus International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media.

Eligibility

Offices, studios, agencies, freelances and students in the sectors of graphic design, visual communication and/or any other kind of design are all eligible to take part.

Rules

The award scheme has two categories. However, only one entry per category is allowed.   The categories are:

  • Professionals:   Posters: A2 (594 x 420mm, 23.4 x 16.5 in)  Videos: from a minimum of 20 seconds to a maximum of 3 minutes.
  • Students:  Posters: A2 (594 x 420mm, 23.4 x 16.5 in) Videos: from a minimum of 20 seconds to a maximum of 3 minutes.

The technical specifications of the entries:

For posters: in the form of jpg files (72dpi, 1680 x 1190 pixels)

For videos: encoding format is: MPEG-4 H.264   (512 kbs / Pal / 25 fps – aspect ratio 16:9 512 X 288 ) (maximum for all categories: 30 Mb).  The last 5 sec of the video should also show an image of the poster (static, no animation).

IMPORTANT:  There should be no mention of the name of the participant or the studio behind the proposal on the film/poster at this stage, nor in the message itself, only the registration number, which should figure in both the title of the e-mail as well as in the video itself.  (The technical specifications of the winning and honour list entries:

The winners and those included in the honour list should provide high resolution files for both the video and the poster:

Poster: size A2, 300dpi, uncompressed image (eg. Tiff, Psd etc.) or vector format (eg. Adobe Illustrator).

Video: mpeg2, 720 x 576, 6 MB/sec, 25 frames per second)

Prizes

The following prizes shall be awarded:   1st, 2nd and 3rd prize for each category

Application

To enter the competition, participants must go to the website and download and fill in the REGISTRATION FORM together with the separate “SIGNED DECLARATION” form and then send both in the same mail, to the e-mail address indicated, either for students or for professionals, following the instructions given in the registration form.

Once registration has been completed, participants will receive a confirmation mail with a personal alphanumerical code, which will be sent as an automatic reply to the e-mail address where the application was sent from.  Participants should then upload their entries and send the link to the e-mail address announced, following the instructions in the registration form.

The deadline for registration is 15 October 2011

The deadline for submission of proposals and uploading entries is 1 November 2011
