Berlin Summer School on Social Sciences

Deadline: 15 May 2011
Open to: PhD candidates
Venue: 17 – 29 July 2011, Berlin
No fee is applicable

The Berlin Summer School is a joint initiative of two of Germany’s leading social science institutions, the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences (BGSS) at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB).

It seeks to promote young researchers by strengthening their methodological understanding in linking theory and empirical research. The summer school consists of a two-week program with a varied format of lectures, panels, seminars, as well as question and answer sessions.

While in the first week we tackle the key methodological challenges that arise in all research efforts, the second week is devoted to how certain empirical fields deal with these challenges and what solutions have been found to overcome them.

The summer school will be held both at the WZB and the BGSS facilities, and all participants of the summer school will be accommodated either in apartments at Humboldt University Guest House or at Guest House Berlin Mitte.
