Freedom to Create Prize

The Freedom to Create Prize is a celebration of the courage and creativity of artists, and the positive influence of their work to promote social justice and inspire the human spirit. The Prize encompasses all forms of art in any creative field and is open to any individual or group of any gender, religion or nationality.

The 2011 Freedom to Create Prize is open for nominations through this website from 24 March 2011 until 15 July 2011.

There are two categories: Main Prize and Imprisoned Artist Prize.

Submissions

1.The Prize is open to any individual or group of any gender, religion or nationality.
2.The Prize is open to all art forms and we welcome submissions from any of the creative arts.
3.Artists may nominate themselves or be nominated by a third party.
4.Only submissions entered on this website or on official entry forms will be considered.
5.Past applicants can submit applications for the Freedom to Create Prize again but must submit a different art work.
6.The Freedom to Create Youth Prize is now combined with the Freedom to Create Main Prize which is open to any individual or group of any gender, religion or nationality, above 16 years of age.

Judging Criteria

Entries for the Freedom to Create Main Prize and Imprisoned Artist Prize will be evaluated by a panel of distinguished judges based on the following criteria:
1.The creativity of the artist in pursuing the freedom to create and conveying their message for social justice.
2.The courage and/or personal risk the artist has demonstrated in pursuing the freedom to create while promoting their. work.
3.The subject matter of the artwork and its relevance to a particular social issue.
4.The creativity the artist has displayed to demonstrate how art can influence change.
5.The extent to which the artist embodies the vision, mission and values of Freedom to Create.

Winners of the 2011 Freedom to Create Prize will be unveiled in November 2011, at the Freedom to Create Award Ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa.

You will need to please submit samples of your artwork along with your application by using one of the four methods below.
