EU Health Prize for Journalists 2010

Open to: nationals or residents of one of the 27 EU Member States and professional journalists

The EU Health Prize for Journalists 2010 will be awarded to stimulate high-quality journalism that raises awareness of issues related to healthcare and patients’ rights.

The Prize is part of the “Europe for patients” campaign, highlighting 11 health policy initiatives. All these are bound by a common goal: better healthcare for all in Europe.

The Prize will reward journalists who have contributed in a significant way to help citizens understand health issues, and through their work reflect patients’ and health workers’ expectations and thoughts.

The Prize will be awarded in the spirit of respect for media freedom and pluralism and in the context of the Commission’s desire to improve communication between the European Institutions and the European citizens.

Article must have been published between 16 June 2009 and 1 July 2010.

Selection
The selection of the winner will be a two-step procedure:

1) National juries, one for each Member State, will select one national nominee.

2) An EU jury will select the winner and two runners-up of the EU-wide award.

Prizes
The winner of the European competition and the two runners-up will receive prizes with a value of:
• First prize € 5 000
• 2nd prize € 3 000
• 3rd prize € 2 000
