Vulnerability and Poverty Reduction Research

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global charity for research, teaching and communications on international development.

The Vulnerability and Poverty Reduction Team at IDS is seeking to appoint three Research Fellows to contribute to our ongoing research into the dynamics of vulnerability and policy responses to poverty reduction. IDS is seeking to make at least one of these appointments at a senior level where the successful candidate will be expected to provide research leadership within the team.

Research areas of particular interest include:
* The analysis of specific forms and contexts of vulnerability to poverty
* Poverty policy, including social protection and its relationship to broader social policy
* The politics of social policy and social protection; links to citizenship and rights
* The evaluation of poverty policy interventions
* Linkages between agriculture, food security and vulnerability
* Micro-finance, micro-insurance, including informal mutual insurance systems
* The financing and fiscal affordability of social protection
* Social protection in fragile states, and in humanitarian crises
* Vulnerability and poverty in urban contexts

Eligibility
Applicants are expected to have:
* an outstanding background in economics or related social science and a PhD (although exceptionally, comparable research and practical experience may be taken as a substitute);
* an excellent research and publication record related to or relevant to any of the above areas;
* a proven capacity to work in a multi-disciplinary team, in policy environments, with overseas partners and practical experience in the field are also essential;
* language abilities beyond English will be an advantage.
