University of Maribor

University of Maribor was established in 1975. Around 25 000 students study at Maribor University and it accepts 7700 beginners per year and 1800 employees. This university comprises 16 faculties, 1 administrative unit-Rectorat, University library, Student Dormitories,  The Residence Hall for Postgraduate Students and Visiting Professors,  Sport center Leon Štukelj, TehnoCenter LtD , The Business Incubator of the University of Maribor, The Scientific Park of the University of Maribor, The Center for Interdisciplinary, Multidisciplinary Research  and Studies, Uni Servis LtD. There are 198 study programmes, various undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes. Study programmes are in compliance with the Bologna declaration, as enrolment in old study programmes will not be possible anymore from academic year 2009/2010 on.

The usage of credit system in study programme’s realization enables students to perform their study obligations also abroad (ECTS), selection of subjects from other study programmes at the University of Maribor (credit system study and University of Maribor) and joining the  national mobility (more information can be found here).

When graduating, students receive, along with a diploma, a diploma supplement issued in Slovene and one of official EU languages, both free of charge. The diploma supplement’s purpose is to state student’s study achievements when searching for employment.

International programmes maribor_university

Bilateral cooperation runs as mutual visits of teachers, cooperation at joint research projects and also as student exchanges. High-quality university co-operation is also the basis for multilateral co-operation which has been recently increasing. Multilateral academic co-operation includes membership and participation in international higher education institutions, participation in European programmes (LLLP, CEEPUS, TEMPUS, Council of Europe, UNESCO, etc.), and organisation of conferences, symposia and summer schools.

The University of Maribor also actively acts in the framework of several European higher education networks such as: EUA, AARC, DRC, ENAS, LEO-NET, UNEECC.
