Description
The Faculty Board and the Sociology department at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences have drawn up an investment programme and intend to appoint three assistant professors. The department is responsible for teaching in the Dutch bachelor and master of Science Sociology degree programmes. Moreover, we have an English Master of Science degree programme. The Sociology department also participates in the research master programme of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. The successful candidates teach and coordinate courses in Sociology, supervise bachelor, master and PhD students, and play an active role in implementing new developments in the Sociology department’s teaching programme. In particular, they will be concerned with the ongoing development of activating and intensifying teaching and learning in the bachelor programme.
The assistant professors will perform these tasks in close cooperation with other staff members, including the Director of Education. The research programme of the Sociology department is focused on the interrelation between social networks, solidarity, and inequality.
Eligibility
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- PhD in the Social Sciences, favourably Sociology;
- A competitive research track record commensurate with the level of appointment;
- The motivation and potential to acquire externally financed projects;
- Excellent academic writing and presentation skills;
- Demonstrable interest in teaching and excellent teaching skills;
- Good collaboration and communication skills;
- The possession or the willingness to acquire a BKO (i.e. University Teaching Qualification).
Benefits
The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience. For this position, the appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level. The salary is ranging from a minimum of EUR 3,475 to a maximum of EUR 4,757 gross per month (salary scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities) for a full- time position, plus an 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
You will be appointed for a period of a maximum of four years, with an evaluation moment after one year. The position is available immediately. The candidates for this position are expected to play an active role in both the teaching as well as the research programme.
