Deadline: 5 February 2016
Open to: young people aged 18-25
Venue: 30 March – 10 April 2016, Warsaw, Poland and different regions of East-Central Europe

In Between? is an educational project of study visits to 4 multicultural borderland regions of Central Eastern Europe in search of local histories. The initiative targets  people aged 18-25 and aims to improve the knowledge young Europeans have on historical processes in 20th-century East-Central Europe. The participants selected in the recruitment process are going to take part in workshops and study visits to one of the four European regions. The study visits and the preparatory workshops shall take place on 31 March – 10 April 2016.

Workshops will be delivered in Warsaw by experts in most recent history, oral history, anthropology and archival studies who will train the participants in basic methods of collecting reports and photograph digitalisation. After the workshops, the participants (in teams of six) will go for week-long study visits to border places in four regions of East-Central Europe (Bukovina, Lubuskie Region, Banská Bystrica Region and Transylvania).

The visits will result in collecting interviews and audio-visuals documents which reflect the past of a given region. The project participants will also attempt to make the narratives that they will have collected a part of a broader context of Europe’s regional history. The project will close with a conference to be held in Warsaw in late 2016.

The project is open to inquisitive, sensitive and engaged young people aged 18-25 interested in:

  • History and art history;
  • Social sciences;
  • Cultural anthropology;
  • Visual arts.

All candidates should have a command of English of at least the B2 level.

The Organisers should cover the Participants’ accommodation and subsistence costs during project delivery, their transport costs from the workshops venue (Warsaw) to the region they have been qualified for and the expenses they incur on the way back home. The participants should undertake to reach the workshops venue (Warsaw) at their own expense. In justified cases, the organiser may grant financial assistance of up to EUR 100 gross towards the travel costs incurred by the Participant on his/her way to the workshops venue.
